Philippines registers 4,393 new COVID-19 cases; 53K active tally lowest since July

The Department of Health on Tuesday reported 4,393 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the Philippines' total caseload to 2,765,672, as five laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The DOH said the relatively low cases today was due to lower laboratory output on Sunday, October 24.

Of the 53,642 active cases, 74.8% are mild, 6.7% are asymptomatic, 5.8% are severe, and 2.4% are in critical condition. This is the lowest active case count since the 50,562 on July 22.

Total recoveries, meanwhile, increased to 2,669,953 after 8,470 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The number of deaths breached the 42,000-mark with 135 new fatalities, bringing the death toll to 42,077.

The DOH noted that 28 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 97 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Latest data from the DOH also showed that 53% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 35% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 47% of the ICU beds are utilized, while 32% of the ventilators are in use.—LDF, GMA News
