FDA reviewing EUA for boosters, additional doses —DOH

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reviewing the emergency use authorization of COVID-19 vaccines for booster shots and additional doses, the Department of Health (DOH) said Thursday.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire previously said the DOH has passed its letter of intent for the EUA application to the FDA and that it is working on completing the required documents.

“The DOH is applying for this EUA. We’re just waiting for more evidence to complete our documentation and submission. And then the Food and Drug Administration also has started their evaluation,” she said in an ANC interview.

In a message to GMA News Online, FDA director-general Eric Domingo said they may have updates on the EUA by next week.

Vergeire said the EUA of the vaccines must be amended as it specifically states the number of doses that must be administered to complete the vaccination.

According to Vergeire, health experts advised the agency to wait for the recommendation of the World Health Organization this coming November.

The DOH earlier said the Health Technology Assessment Council’s recommendation on booster shots and additional doses are only interim recommendations and will still be updated.

Meanwhile, the Philippines has logged a total of 2,768,849 cases, of which 50,152 remain active while 42,348 have succumbed to the illness.—LDF, GMA News
