The Department of Education on Friday said it is conducting an investigation into a viral TikTok video of a teacher that apparently implies child abuse.

In a statement, the DepEd underscored that it does not tolerate any forms of abuse towards children.

Also, Education Secretary Leonor Briones directed the DepEd Central Luzon to impose possible sanctions against the teacher, the DepEd said.

“Briones has instructed the Regional Director of DepEd Central Luzon to immediately investigate a viral TikTok video of a certain teacher insinuating a potential child abuse action,” according to the DepEd statement.

“We remind our teachers and non-teaching personnel to always subject our words and actions, including our social media activities, to the highest degree of ethical and professional standards,” it added.

Likewise, it said that teachers and public servants should always promote a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, where physical, verbal, sexual, and other forms of abuse and discrimination are renounced.

“As we celebrate the National Children’s Month, DepEd will continue to strengthen its policies and capacity-building activities to further promote our advocacy of protecting our learners against abuse,” the DepEd said. —LBG, GMA News
