Senate finance panel slashes DPWH, DOTr proposed 2022 budget

The Senate finance committee has reduced the proposed 2022 budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as well as Department of Transportation (DOTr) as the upper chamber continues to tackle next year's national budget.

In a committee report dated Nov. 9 but was sent to the media on Thursday, DPWH's proposed 2022 budget was cut by P33 billion from P698 billion passed by the House of Representatives to P665 billion.

For the transportation department, the Senate panel reduced its budget by P2 billion from P94.709 billion as approved by the lower chamber to P92.709 billion.

Aside from these agencies, the Senate panel, led by Senator Sonny Angara, had also slashed

the Executive Department's proposed 2022 budget National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) from P28 billion to only P4 billion.

The Department of Science and Technology's proposed 2022 budget, meanwhile, received an increase of P50 million from P23.75 billion as approved by the House to P23.79 billion.

The Department of Health's (DOH) proposed 2022 budget also went up by P44 billion from P182.67 billion to P226 billion, as previously indicated by Angara's panel. 

Currently, the Senate is on the second day of discussing the proposed P5.04 trillion budget for 2022.—LDF, GMA News
