11,000 New Bilibid Prison PDLs receive COVID-19 jabs

About 11,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City got their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Healthcare Services on Sunday.

Jhoper Apresto reported on Super Radyo dzBB that those vaccinated were around 38% of the over 28,000 PDLs in the New Bilibid Prison. Only 10 of these inmates were fully vaccinated so far.

BuCor stated that, in its overall records, more than 13,000 PDLs in other national government-run jail facilities received their first dose while some 4,000 were fully vaccinated.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) earlier called on the government to attend to the condition of PDLs and their need for COVID-19 vaccinations, including the welfare of personnel managing jails and other detention facilities. — DVM, GMA News
