Fully vaccinated health workers can get booster shots starting Nov. 17, says DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said all fully vaccinated healthcare workers can avail of COVID-19 booster shots starting Wednesday, November 17.

In an advisory, the DOH recommended that health workers use either Moderna, Pfizer, and Sinovac as booster doses regardless of the brand used for the primary series of vaccination based on the emergency use authorization issued by the Food and Drug Administration.

The health department said Sinovac will also be offered as a booster for those that had Sinovac as primary series.

Guidelines will be released on November 16 by the National Vaccine Operations Center, the DOH said.

There have been calls earlier for the government to start giving booster shots among the healthcare workers, immunocompromised, and the elderly as they may be at risk considering reports on breakthrough infections.

The DOH has allocated a P45-billion budget for the COVID-19 boosters. -- Ma. Angelica Garcia/BAP, GMA News
