Zubiri denies ouster rumors: 'There had been no talk of leadership changes'

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and fellow senators on Wednesday denied claims that there will be a change of leadership in the Senate.

According to a “24 Oras” report, Zubiri said, "There had been no talk of leadership changes as well as any warnings from anyone on the low output of the Senate."

“If there are 13 votes to elect a new Senate President, then I will gladly step down,” he also said.

Meanwhile, Senator Joel Villanueva said the issue is a desperate and pathetic move to destroy not only the reputation of Senator Zubiri “but also to destabilize the integrity of the Senate as an institution.”

Senator Sonny Angara said, “They (the majority) should be given a chance as it is way too early to pass judgment.”

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian believes that the "fake news" has something to do with the constitutional convention since the Senate will play a significant role in it.

Senators Grace Poe, Nancy Binay, Loren Legarda, and Chiz Escudero also refuted the issue of changing the leadership in the Senate. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA Integrated News
