Pinoy sushi chef in US wins $15-M lotto jackpot

A Filipino sushi chef in Los Angeles, California hit the $15 million jackpot of SuperLotto there last week, local news sites in the area reported.   Victor Caube of Echo Park, an area “at the edge of Filipinotown,” was one of the “two gentlemen” who “checked in at the state lottery office” late Thursday (United States time) to claim stake at the prize, news site Echo Park Patch reported last March 2.   The report said both Caube and the other winner—who asked lottery officials not to name him—“were long-time friends… [who had] both come to America from the Philippines to seek their fortune.”   A separate article from the Eastsider LA said the two bought the winning ticket—with numbers 2, 8, 10, 15, 22, and (Mega number) 12—from a liquor store in their neighborhood.   In an interview with the news site, the 48-year-old Filipino said: “I still do not believe it. I cried. I screamed. I was in shock.”   Echo Park Patch said Caube “came to America about 10 years ago after training in Japan, and then Guam, as a sushi chef,” and is now working in Long Beach.   “Victor supports a child and other family members back in the Philippines,” it said, adding that the Filipino intends to use his part of the winnings “to start a small business—possibly a restaurant” in the Philippines. - VVP, GMA News
