Filipinos in Guam participated in the dedication rites of the image of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag at the St. Anthony-St. Victor Catholic Church in Tamuning on August 18. In a news release on Friday, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippine Consulate General in Agana led the rites together with the Pangasinan Ladies Club and the Federation of Pangasinenses in Guam.

Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, Acting Head of Post, represented the Consulate while Lolita Gagaoin, club president, stood for the Pangasinan Ladies Club.

The dedication ceremony was highlighted by a short procession and blessing of the image loaded on a flower-laden carroza inside the church. It was followed by a Holy Mass officiated by Monsignor Brigido Arroyo, parish priest of the St. Anthony-St. Victor Church, and concelebrated by Fr. Karl Vila, Fr. Val Rodriguez, Fr. Mario Ortiz and Fr. Rudy Arejola, all Filipino priests. The three-foot image was donated by Mrs. Edna Ouano Toral, a devotee from Cebu. The image was brought to Guam by Toral and Philippine Daily Inquirer religion columnist Josie Darang on August 17. A pilgrimage site In the Philippines, the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag in Pangasinan is a popular pilgrimage site for Catholics.  According to the shrine's website, "Every Saturday and Sunday, thousands of people converge on this town to attend Mass, pray the Rosary, offer flowers, and light candles." "Folk tradition has it that the Blessed Mother showed herself to a middle-aged farmer and gave him the message on where she wanted the church to be located, " the website said. - VVP, GMA News
