'The Filipino Australian' publisher receives award for coverage of community affairs


 

Romeo Cayabyab, the editor and publisher of "The Filipino Australian" news site recently received an award for coverage of community affairs in Australia. The citation was part of the first Multicultural Media Awards on September 14, a report of the "The Filipino Australian" said. Cayabyab co-founded emanila.com together with multimedia specialist Rom Zamora. The citation received by "The Filipino Australian" was the second major award given to emanila.com and its websites. In November 2000, the company was an awardee for Technology in Australia’s National Multicultural Marketing Awards. 
 
The awards had nine categories that received 132 nominations throughout Australia.
Aside from Cayabyab and "The Filipino Australian," the other awardees are:
 
  • Majida Abboud / SBS Radio and Pawan Luthra / IndianLink (shared the multicultural journalist of the year award);
  • Win Yam Lee / Sing Tao Daily (coverage of community affairs abroad);
  • Lina Lee / Top News (contribution to social inclusion and multiculturalism);
  • Gerry Georgalos / National Indigenous Times (coverage of indigenous affairs);
  • Pawan Luthra / IndianLink (editorial/ news reporting)
  • Oi Ling Lee / Sing Tao Daily (multicultural photographer of the year)
  • Pawan Luthra and IndianLink / IndianLink (online innovation in news blog or news website design)
