Hero dog Kabang’s tumor shrinks after third chemotherapy session in US

Philippine “hero dog” Kabang who gained international attention after saving two children from being run over in Zamboanga City, has successfully undergone her third chemotherapy session in the United States on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, a post on “Care for Kabang,” a Facebook page dedicated to Kabang, said the health condition of Kabang, whose snout and upper jaw were ripped off after saving the children, said “Kabang had her 3rd chemo treatment today at UC (University of California) Davis.”

“The tumor continues to shrink,” it added.

“Care for Kabang” is a group formed to raise funds for Kabang’s surgery in the US which was initially estimated at $20,000 (roughly P800,000).

Kabang was flown to the US in October for two facial surgeries:
(1) A dental reconstruction, and
(2) Closing of the gaping wound on her face to prevent further infection.
However, the reconstructive surgery had to be delayed because Kabang had to be treated first for two serious ailments:
(1) Genital tumor
(2) Heartworm

For her tumor, Kabang had to undergo chemotherapy sessions at the UC Davis on:
  • October 24
  • November 3
  • November 7

The "Care for Kabang" group said, “She will most likely need five total chemotherapy treatments (one per week) and then they will move on to treating the heartworm.” - VVP, GMA News
