Pinoys warned vs. recruiting scam for nurses in Toronto hospital

Foreign Affairs officials in Canada warned against a new email scam inviting jobseekers to pay P3,888 for a coaching interview for a shot at nonexistent jobs as nurses in Toronto-based hospitals.
In a news release on Wednesday, the the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the emails claimed to offer job opportunities with Shouldice and other hospitals in Toronto.

"Participants are made to pay a fee of P3,888 for the 'coaching interview, which is a prelude to a two-day seminar at the completion of the initial consultation," the DFA said.

Citing reports from the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto, the DFA said the emails claimed the "coaching interviews" would be conducted in Makati City, to prepare them for supposed interviews by the Canadian Embassy in Manila.

However, the DFA said Shouldice Hospital claims to be represented illegitimately and falsely by an "unidentified" agency in the Philippines as conducting interviews of nurses.

"In the past few days, Shouldice Hospital has been receiving at least 100 e-mails and telephone inquiries about the coaching interviews by its staff in a Makati location, for potential employment in its hospital in Thornhill, Ontario. These would-be participants are asked to send money via Western Union, specifically to somebody using Shouldice Hospital's officers including its Chief Executive Officer (CEO)," it said.

The DFA said the Philippine Consulate General advised receipients of such emails to "be wary of such invitations, especially those that demand money from potential applicants." - VVP, GMA News
