UP Pep Squad reaps awards in intl cheerleading fest in Japan


The University of the Philippines Pep Squad bagged second place in Partner Stunts and won third place in the Group Stunts Mixed categories at the recently concluded 7th Cheerleading Asia International Open Championships (CAIOC) held in Tokyo, Japan.
 
The UP Pep Squad obtained a score of 171.5 in the Partner Stunts event, following Thailand's Thai RSU cheer team, which got a score of 211.0
 
In the Group Stunts Mixed category, meanwhile, the squad garnered a score of 177.0 to make it to the third spot, following Thai RSU from Thailand and Rock Bear from Chinese Taipei, who got scores of 236.5 and 217.0, respectively..
 
The UP Pep Squad was also in the top 20 in the Cheerleading category, getting the 19th spot with a score of 346.0.
 
The CAIOC, which this year was held from May 18 to 19, is an annual competition hosted and organized by the Japan Cheerleading Association (JCA) in Tokyo, Japan since 2007.
 
 
The UP Pep Squad is no stranger to victory in the team's homeland. Last year, the UP Pep Squad claimed their third straight victory at the 2012 UAAP Cheerdance Competition. They have also won five titles in the last six years. - Gian C. Geronimo/VVP, GMA News
