OFW in Saudi raped by Pinoy she met through internet

A female undocumented overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was allegedly raped by her fellow Filipino, according to a report on GMA News TV's "News to Go" Tuesday morning.

The victim, whose identity was withheld, reportedly said she met the suspect through a social networking site. She added the suspect offered her help after knowing that she was an undocumented worker. The suspect allegedly claimed to have connections at the Philippine Consulate.

When they met, the suspect brought the victim to his supervisor's room where the incident occurred, the report said. The victim reportedly said she struggled but the suspect hit her in the stomach which weakened her, giving way to the sexual abuse.

The victim said despite threats from the suspect, she still told  her relatives and authorities about the incident.

The suspect was arrested and is currently detained while the victim is put under the custody of the Philippine Consulate.

Meanwhile, Consul General Uriel Garibay warned OFWs to be wary of trusting others especially those who use the name of the consulate with no identification to prove it. — Andrei Medina/KBK, GMA News
