This early, Filipinos in Hong Kong were urged to register as voters for the May 2016 national elections, with the registration period starting May 7.
The Commission on Elections and the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong said applications may be filed from May 7, 2014 to Oct. 31, 2015.
"For purposes of the May 9, 2016 elections, the filing of applications for registration/certification shall be from May 7, 2014 (PHL time) to Oct. 31, 2015 (Philippine time)," the consulate general said.
Filipinos may register at the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong from Sunday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., it added.

Citing the Voters Registration Act of 1996, the Consulate General said qualified Filipino citizens not registered as voters can file an application for registration.
Those who are already registered can file an application for certification, it added.
The Consulate General said requests for transfer of registration records may be filed at the foreign posts or before the Comelec's Office for Overseas Voting during the registration period.
Also, it said the 30-day voting period will start April 9, 2016 until 3 p.m. of May 9, 2016, Philippine time, at the Philippine embassy or consulate with jurisdiction over the area where the OFW is registered. — ELR, GMA News
