PHL embassy in Kuala Lumpur flies flag at half mast in remembrance of MH17

The Philippine flag was flown at half mast at the Philippine embassy in Kuala Lumpur, in remembrance of those who died in the crash of Malaysia Airlines MH17 last week.

In a post on its Facebook account, the embassy extended its "heartfelt condolences" to the Malaysian government and people, and the families of those who perished.

"The Embassy has placed its flag at half-mast in remembrance of those who perished in this tragedy," it said.

Among the fatalities were three Filipinos - Irene Pabellon-Gunawan, and her children Darryl Dwight and Sherryl Shania.

Gunawan and her children were heading for Manila via Kuala Lumpur for a family reunion when the tragedy happened.

The embassy thanked the management and staff of Malaysia Airlines for its assistance, especially in reaching out to the Gunawans' immediate kin in the Philippines.

It also noted that the Department of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to come together and help determine those responsible for the "brutal act against a civilian airliner in civilian airspace." — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
