Taiwan’s new rep in PHL assumes post

Taiwan's new representative to the Philippines has assumed his post, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office said over the weekend.

In a post on its website Friday, TECO said Dr. Gary Song-Huann Lin had assumed his post since September 23 as Taiwan's representative to the Philippines.

"Upon his arrival, Dr. Lin stated that, as Taiwan and the Philippines have enjoyed close ties, he will do his utmost to further enhance the longstanding friendship and substantive relations with the Philippines," TECO said.

It said Lin and his wife arrived in Manila last September 23, and were greeted by Chairman Amadeo Perez and Representative Antonio Basilio of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).

"The Philippines side has extended heartiest welcome and attached great importance to Dr. Lin’s appointment," TECO said.

Lin said the Philippines and Taiwan share common values and embracing culture.

He voiced hopes both sides will work together to contribute to the prosperity and stability in the Asia Pacific region.

Lin also called on the Philippines to grant Taiwanese the visa-waiver treatment or to introduce Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) arrangements for the Taiwanese.  — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
