Mary Jane’s mom asks for understanding following anti-PNoy outburst

The mother of Filipino death row inmate Mary Jane Veloso on Tuesday appealed for public understanding, following heavy criticisms on her for her scathing remarks against President Benigno Aquino III.

“Masakit na masakit yung loob ko na hindi ho naiintindihan ng ating mga kababayan nang sila ay nagkomenta sa akin. Sana naman, unawaiin nila ang isang ina. Intindihin nila 'ko, unawain nila ang totoo,” Celia Veloso tearfully said in a rally in Cabanatuan City, as reported on “24 Oras.”

Mary Jane's execution for drug smuggling was put on hold on the last minute last week following widespread appeals, including from Aquino himself, who discussed her case in a brief meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Malaysia.

Despite Aquino's gesture, Celia Veloso still furiously blamed the government for her daughter's ordeal. She even denied that the government played a role in saving her daughter from the firing squad.

The public was particularly roused after Celia said that the president should expect a reckoning for the alleged neglect she and her family suffered.

“Ang masasabi ko lang, president, hintayin mo ang paniningil ko kapag may mangyari sa anak ko,” Celia Veloso said in an interview on GMA News TV's “Balitanghali” last April 24.
