1 killed, 4 hurt in freak accident in Laguna

An excursion turned tragic after a boat operator was killed while his colleague and three Korean tourists were hurt in a freak accident in Laguna province Tuesday morning. Laguna Police chief Senior Superintendent Manolito Labrador said that Francisco Cataang y Constantino, 24, boatman, was killed while his assistant, Wilfredo Juarez y Sanchez, and three Korean tourists were wounded when a tree fell on the boat ferrying them. He said that the incident happened at 10:45 a.m. on April 13, at Sitio Kipot in Brangay Tibtib, Cavinti town. Initial police report indicated that a tree fell on the boat approaching the Pagsanjan Falls along Cavinti River. It said that the tree fell after the soil softened due to heavy rains around Pagsanjan in the past days. Juarez and the three tourists identified as Kim Kwang Su, 65; Kim Chil Soo, 59; and Jeong Gyeong Jang,49, were rushed to the Pagsanjan Medical Clinic. — RSJ/LBG, GMANews.TV
