3 suspected NPA rebels killed in Pampanga clash

Three alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a firefight with government troops in Pampanga early morning Friday, the Philippine Army’s spokesperson said. The three unidentified persons were killed in a clash in Barangay Sta. Cruz in Mexico town at 5:15 a.m. Friday, Army spokesperson Major Ronald Jess Alcudia said in a report sent to the media. Two kinds of ammunition – for .45-caliber pistol and for M-16 rifles – were also recovered from the rebels after the clash, Alcudia said. The NPA is the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)’s armed wing. President Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III said in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday that he is open to a ceasefire and peace talks with the CPP-led National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).
