Education Secretary Armin Luistro on Wednesday went to Zamboanga City in Mindanao to pay his respects to a teacher who died defending her students from a pardoned convict last week.<br rn/><br rn/>The Department of Education said Luistro also paid his respects to a student who died in the same attack, and visited those who were injured.<br rn/><br rn/>An entry on the DepEd's <a target="_blank" class="external" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/#!/deped_ph" target="_blank" >Twitter account</a> said Luistro also met with local officials led by Mayor Celso Lobregat. <br rn/><br rn/>Last Oct. 22, pardoned convict Seli Mateo stabbed dead Lorna Pulalon and her student Ces Orfiano, and Ruben Flores, a grandfather who accompanied his grandchild to school.<br rn/><br rn/>Mateo, a native of Negros Oriental who was jailed for rape in 1981 but released in 2008, was mauled to death after irate villagers ganged up on him.<br rn/><br rn/>Investigation showed Mateo ran amuck and took over two classrooms in an elementary school in Zamboanga City early Friday afternoon last week.
