Special elections set for Feb. 4 in Zambales for House seat; holiday declared


Special elections will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 in the second district of Zambales province to fill the slot of the late Rep. Antonio Magsaysay Diaz.
 
Diaz, a nephew of former President Ramon Magsaysay, died on August 3 last year.
 
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) set the special elections on Feb. 4 last Nov. 29 via Resolution No.11-1203.
 
President Benigno Aquino III has declared Feb. 4 a special non-working holiday in Zambales province to let registered voters in the second district to participate in the special elections.
 
Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. signed Proclamation No. 324 announcing the special non-working day.
 
Aquino also noted there may also be registered voters in the second district working in the adjacent first district of the province.
 
The Comelec also announced a gun ban has been put in effect in Olongapo City and 13 other towns in Zambales for the start of the special elections. 
 
The campaign period for the House seat ended Feb. 2. Four candidates are vying for the post. –KG, GMA News
