Laguna placed under state of calamity due to floods 


Laguna province has been placed under a state of calamity due to floods, a local disaster relief official said Tuesday.
 
In an interview with GMA News Online, Valentin Guidote Jr., head of the Laguna Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), said at least 20 towns and cities are now underwater. 
Dump trucks have also been going around to rescue stranded residents. Laguna de Bay overflowed on Monday.
 
 
Flood victims have been brought to 114 evacution centers, in schools and basketball courts, Governor ER Ejercito said in an interview on GMA News TV's Balita Pilipinas Ngayon. 
 
GMA News TV's Balitanghali also reported that Laguna announced an early preventive evacation plan Monday, but some evacuation centers have also been affected by the floods. Guidote said that in flooded evacuation centers, evacuees occupy the second and third floors. 
 
"The biggest problem right now really is the flood," Guidote said. He reiterated, however, that the provice is prepared to deal with the calamity. "As of now, we have no casualties, because we have a prepared disaster plan," he said.
