Registered ARMM voters down by more than 200,000


The number of registered voters in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) went down by more than 200,000, according to data provided by the Commission on Elections (Comelec)to GMA News Online. The data indicated that 1,566,795 voters registered in ARMM during the general registration held from July 9 to 18, 2012, down from the 1,778,817 in its old book of voters from April 8, 2011. Basilan - 152,170 (down from 179,811)
Lanao del Sur - 439,189 (down from 522,417)
Maguindanao - 537, 335 (down from 567,443)
Sulu - 302,175 (down from 341,536)
Tawi-Tawi - 135,926 (down from 167,610)
 
The numbers may still go down after the Election Registration Board screens the applications for registration.
For the 2008 ARMM polls, there were 1,518,829 registered voters, 86 percent of whom voted in the actual elections.
 
According to the Census of Population and Housing, there are a total of 3,256,140 residents in ARMM as of May 1, 2010. - BM, GMA News
