Death toll rises to 4 in explosion near mall in Cagayan de Oro City


(Updated 1:35 a.m. July 27, 2013) At least four persons were killed in an explosion in Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao late Friday evening, the Philippine National Police (PNP) in CDO told GMA News Online.

The explosion occured in a cafe' outside the Limketkai mall at 11:10 pm, Police Officer 1 Barcy Gaacucayan said in a phone interview with GMA News Online.

Gaacucayan said the initially reported three fatalities were "dead on the spot" and the injured, whose numbers are still being determined and confirmed, were rushed to hospitals in the city. She said their police personnel are in the process of identifying the fatalities and the injured.

Police at the scene said there were four dead in the explosion. Graphic photographs sent to GMA News show at least two badly charred and bloodied blodies on the floor of the exact site of the incident which is an establishment named Candy's Cafe at the Rosario Arcade near the Limketkai mall.

Scene of the crime (SOCO) and explosives and ordnance personnel are at the scene of the explosion to investigate.  — ELR, GMA News
