Mass grave found in Abra province — report

Police and soldiers have discovered a mass grave believed to contain remains of communist New People's Army members in Abra province.

The grave was located in Barangay Duminglay Licuan's Sitio Sukaw in Ba-ay town, according to a report on Bombo Radyo Saturday night.

The report quoted 1Lt. Rowena Abayon of the Army's 5th Infantry Division's public affairs office as saying the grave could have contained the remains of at least three residents previously reported missing.

Abayon identified them as Freddie Giliw, 30; Rogelio Giliw, 68; and Eddie Giliw, 35, all of Ba-ay town.

Freddie was said to be an NPA rebel who returned to the fold of the law in March 2011. Rogelio is his father while Eddie is Freddie's brother.

Police and military forces are verifying information from a local resident that 15 suspected New People's Army members were seen in the area last March 1.

The report said authorities suspect the three may have been executed for leaving the communist movement. — LBG, GMA News
