Comelec lacks biometrics data of more than 41K Zamboanga City voters

More than 41,000 voters in Zamboanga City may not be able to cast their votes in the 2016 elections due to incomplete data, a Mindanao news site said.

A report on MindaNews said the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has orders to remove the names of registered voters who submitted incomplete information, particularly biometrics data.

“The names of the voters without biometrics will be deleted from the list,” MindaNews quoted Comelec regional director Wilfred Balisado as saying.

Biometrics data refers to the voter's photograph, fingerprints, and signature, which the Comelec captures during voter registration.

Balisado also said they will check the photographs of the voters.

He noted Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. ordered that the voters’ list be checked to ensure the commission has complete data on voters.

The report said there are 41,404 voters in the city who do not have biometrics.

In the meantime, he urged voters to check whether their voter's data is complete once the registration of new voters starts in May. — JDS, GMA News
