P15M worth of substandard steel seized in Tacloban warehouse

The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confiscated P15 million worth of substandard construction materials in Tacloban City on Wednesday, the agency has said.

The CIDG said a team served a search warrant at the warehouse of JJ Mega Holdings Corporation in Barangay Nula-Tula.

They discovered corrugated galvanized iron and plain sheets, steel bars of different sizes and plywood that all bore no Philippine standard markings.

The substandard construction materials were believed to have come from China and were expected to be used in the rebuilding projects in the Yolanda affected Tacloban City.

The warehouse manager, a certain Eddie Fan, was arrested and brought to the CIDG regional office in Leyte for alleged violation of the Consumer Act.

The CIDG earlier this month also had a similar operation wherein P32 million worth of substandard steel was discovered in a Cavite warehouse.
