2 dead due to monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Jose

There are now two persons dead as a result of the rains brought about by the monsoon that Typhoon Jose (Halong) enhanced this week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Friday.

The agency reported that six roads remained impassable due to flooding, landslides and rockslides.

In its 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the latest fatality was Rodnel Javillonar, 15, who was earlier reported missing along with the other fatality, Ronald Perez.

Javillonar's remains were found Thursday afternoon near a hanging bridge in Bautista, Pangasinan.

Javillonar and Perez on Tuesday jumped off the bridge to swim but were carried away by the current. Perez's remains were recovered Thursday morning.

The NDRRMC also said that as of Friday, the monsoon enhanced by Jose had affected 4,355 families or 15,769 people.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said at least six roads remained impassable as of Friday morning. They include:

- Mountain Province: Mountain Province-Ilocos Sur Road via Tue, KO 389+100 (Calacaban section)
- Kalinga: Balbakan-Pinukpuk Road
- Pangasinan: Zone 5, Barangay Talibaew; San Vicente and Banaoang; Sitio Subdivision, Barangay Lumbang; Sitio Kasintac, Barangay Longos

Earlier Friday, PAGASA said the weather in Northern Luzon may improve this weekend as Jose, which was enhancing the southwest monsoon earlier this week, had exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility Thursday. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
