Hacker asks P200-K ransom for access to stolen Facebook account

Here's one more reason to take extra care of your social media account passwords: you could lose much more than your digital life.

A 33-year-old woman in Pampanga learned this the hard way after her Facebook account was hacked, with the attacker posting malicious photos on it.

The hacker then contacted the woman and demanded P217,000 in exchange for access to her account, GMA News' Oscar Oida reported on "News to Go."

But it turned out the price she would pay was much higher. She lost many friends, as well as her family life, to the hack.

"Sa ginawa niya sa akin, sinira niya buhay ko, yung pamilya ko. Naghiwalay kami ng asawa ko. Mga kaibigan ko hindi nainiwala sa akin ang iba," she said.

Also, she said that while her face was on the photos posted by the attacker on her social media account, the images may have been manipulated to make them look malicious.

The victim sought police assistance, and an entrapment operation led to the arrest of the suspect, who turned out to be her neighbor.

Recovered from him were five mobile phones believed used in hacking into the victim's Facebook account.

Also recovered from him were marked money and a handgun.

The suspect declined to comment and now faces charges of robbery extortion, illegal possession of firearms, and violation of the Anti-Cybercrime Law. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
