Eight hurt in explosion in front of GenSan City Hall


(Updated 11:23 a.m.) Eight people were hurt after an improvised explosive device went off in front of the city hall of General Santos City Tuesday night.

The Armed Forces' Eastern Mindanao Command said that the IED exploded at the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument, damaging "the front portion of its foundation."


The Joint Task Force Gensan of the Army's 10th Infantry Division and PNP responded to assist the victims and for investigation.

The Philippine Red Cross' Kenneth Dimalibot said that among the eight injured, two had been treated by the Red Cross, four were taken to the St. Elizabeth hospital, and two taken to the GenSan district hospital.

CDO, Lamitan blasts

Two other explosions were reported in Mindanao Tuesday night.

In Cagayan de Oro City, a suspect believed involved in illegal drugs set off a grenade, killing himself and injuring the three police officers who were about to arrest him.

GMA 7 news program “Saksi” reported that the injured officers had been taken to the Polymedic Medical Plaza.
