Iqbal: There is tremendous pressure to make Bangsamoro better than ARMM

COTABATO CITY - After witnessing the second and probably the last State of the Region Address (SORA) of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Governor Mujiv Hataman on Monday, Bangsamoro Transition Commission chair Mohagher Iqbal admitted there is “tremendous pressure" to make the Bangsamoro government better than the present reformed ARMM.

“We can see a difference between the present ARMM and before. Kitang-kita ang diperensya,” Iqbal said of Hataman’s administration, noting reform achievements.

Iqbal was among the main guests of Hataman during the SORA on Monday together with Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Deles.

Hataman is expected to step down if the Bangsamoro Transitional Authority (BTA) is established next year once the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) gets ratified.

Iqbal admitted expectations are high to make Bangsamoro improve the lives of the people when the BTA is in place.

“It is our determination, our political will to make things happen. We have our commitment to the people,” Iqbal said.

In a press briefing, Hataman, Iqbal and Deles told the media that efforts are underway for the smooth transition from the ARMM government to Bangsamoro through the BTA.

“We don’t want to make happen the mistakes of the past kaya hinihimay-himay naming mabuti at maayos ng mabuti ang details. Kahit mabagal, basta naisama lahat ang aspirations ng Bangsamoro mapa-MNLF or -MILF aspirations man 'yan,” Hataman said. —KG, GMA News
