Ruby destroys houses, evacuation center in Eastern Samar

Tropical Storm Ruby left houses and an evacuation center destroyed in Taft, Eastern Samar.

 

"Ninety percent ng barangay nasira... so declare ko na totally damaged," Barangay Mantang chairman Bhonian Feniza said in a GMA News "24 Oras" report on Monday.

 

Ruby made its first landfall in Dolores, Eastern Samar on Saturday evening. 

 

Many coconut tress fell and damaged houses while electric posts were also knocked down by the storm.

 

Despite the damage, residents were thankful that there were no casualties reported in their area.

 

According to the report, there is still no power nor cellphone signal in the Samar provinces.

 

Some barangay affected by Ruby has not yet received relief goods although some trucks carrying relief goods were seen in affected areas, the report said. — Kathryn Mae P. Tubadeza/JDS, GMA News
