AirAsia plane overshoots Kalibo runway


(Updated 7:34 p.m.) An AirAsia Zest plane overshot the runway at Kalibo Airport late Tuesday afternoon, prompting the suspension of landing and takeoff there.

No one was reported injured in the incident, RGMA Kalibo's John Allen Ascano reported on dzBB radio.

GMA News stringer Ariel Fernandez cited an initial incident report indicating the aircraft overshot Kalibo Runway 23 while landing from Manila at 5:43 p.m.

The aircraft (Z2-272), piloted by Capt. Achilles Narajos with Antonio Miguel Halaguena as first officer, had 153 passengers and six crew.

Fernandez also cited an AirAsia statement indicating the flight skidded off the runway upon landing, but added all 153 passengers and crew disembarked safely, with no injuries reported.

All passengers are at a hotel, assisted by AirAsia staff.

The aviation Safety Network website cited initial information indicating the plane was an Airbus A320-216 (RP-C8972).

It described the incident as the plane suffering a runway excursion at Kalibo Airport.

2 flights affected

The incident prompted the closure of the Kalibo Airport's runway.

Initially affected were at least two flights of Tiger Air, the Department of Transportation and Communications said on Twitter.

Affected were:

- DG-7058: Manila to Kalibo
- DG-7059: Kalibo to Manila
