First night flight arrives at Laguindingan airport in Northern Mindanao

A turboprop plane from Cebu City was the first night flight to arrive at Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental province Thursday night.

The plane of Cebu Pacific arrived at 7:47 p.m., GMA News' "24 Oras Northern Mindanao" reported.

Photos posted by "24 Oras Northern Mindanao" and GMA Northern Mindanao's Jeik Compo showed the plane after landing, at the tarmac.

In a news release, Cebu Pacific said it was the first carrier to operate scheduled night flights at the airport, with 5J-211 arriving in Cagayan de Oro from Cebu.

"Navigational equipment for night operations had been installed at the Laguindingan Airport in November last year. After a series of technical reviews and consultations with relevant aviation authorities, including the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), the Laguindingan Airport has been declared ready to accommodate night flights," the airline said.

It added Laguindingan Airport is the main airport serving Iligan and Cagayan de Oro Cities, as well as Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte, and the rest of Northern Mindanao.

In February, Laguindingan Airport had adopted longer operating hours, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. GMA Northern Mindanao's Francis Damit reported earlier.

Before Tuesday, the airport's operating hours were from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
