Ex-PBA star caught playing mahjong in drug den raid, faces illegal gambling rap

Former Philippine Basketball Association star guard Jimwell Torion was arrested in an anti-drug operation in Argao town in Cebu Tuesday evening.

Although he is facing charges, they are not drug related.

Torion was one of three men playing mahjong in the area when the police conducted the sting operation, GMA Cebu reported Thursday.

At the time, the police were looking for suspected pushers Isidro Campaner and Wilfredo Santos in Sitio Suba in Barangay Poblacion in Argao.

Campaner and Santos were arrested, along with Torion, Jonathan Tandingan and Nick Montelimbo.

But while Campaner and Santos face charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, Torion and the two others face charges for illegal gambling.

Seized from the area were mahjong tiles, P200 in coins, and 16 sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu).

The five were charged before the municipal trial court on Wednesday and are now detained at the Argao police station. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
