Cebu provincial govt offers El Niño reminders

Stay hydrated, find shady areas, and don't leave infants and children in cars.

These were among the reminders of the Cebu provincial government to residents, after declaring a state of calamity due to the hot weather.

"As we are currently experiencing the uncomfortable heat brought about by the El Niño phenomenon, here we have some helpful tips for you to stay and feel good during this hot season," it said.

The tips include:

- Stay hydrated: drink water even if not thirsty. But avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks.
- Wear 3 Ls: lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothing.
- Do not leave infants and children in cars.
- Start your day early, as early mornings are cooler.
- Find shady areas.
- Be updated on local and national weather forecasts.

Last Monday, the provincial government declared a state of calamity due to the effect of a prolonged dry spell.
