Vilma Santos running for Congress, to file candidacy on Thursday

Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos on Wednesday said she will be running for a seat in the House of Representatives.

"I'll be filing tomorrow for Congress," said Santos at the Commission on Elections where she accompanied her husband, Sen. Ralph Recto for his filing of a certificate of candidacy for reelection.

She is running as representative of the lone district of Lipa.

Santos' name was previously floated as a possible running mate of Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas, but she thumbed down the prospect of running for a national post. Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo will be Roxas' vice presidential candidate for 2016.

Recto had earlier said "talks" were ongoing to convince her to run for Congress. —JST, GMA News
