DIOCESE OF SAN PABLO, LAGUNA SAYS

‘Hoverboard priest apologizes, will be out of parish to reflect’

The priest in Laguna who was caught on video singing during a Christmas Eve mass while going around the church on a hoverboard has apologized for the incident, the Diocese of San Pablo said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The priest said that it was a wake up call for him; he acknowledged that his action was not right and promised that it will not happen again," the diocese said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

"He will be out of the parish and will spend some time to reflect on this past event. He would like to apologize for what happened," it added.

The priest, Fr. Falbert San Jose of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Biñan, Laguna,  has refused to be interviewed when GMA News sought his comment after the incident.

The video was re-posted by religious organization "NOVUS ORDO Insider" on its Facebook page on Sunday with the caption, "This calls for a reparation! Instead, pray a rosary for this priest and attend a Traditional Latin Mass."

The statement of the Diocese of San Pablo said that the event happened on December 24 before the final blessing during the Christmas Eve Mass. It added that the priest, who was left unidentified in the statement, explained that it was his way of greeting the parishioners.

"That was wrong," the diocese said.

"The Eucharist demands utmost respect and reverence. It is the Memorial of the Lord's Sacrifice. It is the source and summit of Christian life. It is the Church’s highest form of worship. Consequently, it is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people," it added.
