Bohol placed under state of calamity due to El Niño


The provincial government of Bohol has declared a state of calamity due to the effects of the El Niño phenomenon in the province.

The Provincial Agriculture Office said 40,088 farmers in 27 municipalities in the province have been affected by El Niño.

The office also reported that the El Niño's damaged to agriculture and fishery has reached more than P312 million.

Larry Pamugas, assistant provincial agriculturist, added that a total of 11,385.21 hectares of rice fields; 97.5 hectares of corn fields and 30.9 hectares of farm land for high-value crops have been affected.

Pamugas added that they also detected a decrease in the production of dairy products due to El Niño.

He added that even the supply of potable water in some areas in the province have also been affected. —ALG, GMA News
