American soldiers, 2 Filipino policemen figure in bar brawl

A group of American soldiers, who are participating in the annual Balikatan military exercises with the Philippine military, were involved in a scuffle inside a bar in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on April 2.

A video of the brawl, which was uploaded by Bandera News Philippines, was aired on GMA's “24 Oras” on Tuesday.

The incident started when an American soldier hit the top of a Filipino policeman's bottle of beer. The act caused the beer to produce foam and overflow.

Emotions flared when another policeman in civilian clothes stood up and expressed his displeasure over the beer tapping trick.

When the other Americans arrived, the same policeman pulled out his gun and pointed it at the foreigners.

The bar's owner and his staff attempted to defuse the tension but to no avail, the incident escalated to a brawl between the soldiers and the policemen. The video showed that the Americans left the establishment after the scuffle.

According to Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla, the two camps already settled their differences.

He also urged the commanders of the men involved in the brawl to impose discipline on those involved in the scuffle if it is needed.  — Virgil Lopez, BAP, GMA News
