Maute group members behead 2 sawmill workers

ILIGAN CITY - Kidnappers have beheaded two sawmill workers kidnapped in Butig, Lanao del Sur last week, police said.

Provincial police director, Senior Superintendent Rustom Duran, said the decapitated bodies of sawmill workers Salvador Janobas and Jaymark Janobas were recovered by members of the Butig town police in Barangay Poktan at around 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Duran said that the two victims were beheaded by their abductors and placed in laminated sacks.

He said that the bodies were brought to Iligan City for medico legal examinations before being turned over to the relatives.

The two victims and four other sawmill workers were kidnapped by the dreaded Maute group on April 5 in Purok 4, Barangay Sandab.

The military recently said that it had neutralized the Maute group, which has alleged links with the international terror group ISIS.

Four of the six sawmill workers were freed by the Maute group on Sunday.

Duran said kidnapping and murder charges are being prepared against members of the Maute group. —Richel V. Umel/ALG, GMA News
