Puerto Princesa in state of calamity due to El Niño —local officials

Local officials of Palawan province have placed Puerto Princesa City under state of calamity due to the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, which has been tormenting the country for months.

A report on Unang Balita quoted a local official as saying that less than 50 percent of the city's population have enough water supply.

City officials also said that water levels in Palawan dams started to hit below the critical mark last February.

Efforts at water rationing was not enough to supply residents with their daily water needs, officials said.

More water trucks are needed for the water rationing effort, and that the calamity fund could be used to procure more water trucks, they added. — LBG, GMA News
