‘Reds’ burn Yellow Bus in South Cotabato

Suspects claiming to be members of the New People’s Army set a bus on fire in Sto. Niño town in South Cotabato on Tuesday night, an Unang Balita report said.

According to the report, the rebels burned the air conditioned bus owned by Yellow Bus Lines Inc. near a public cemetery in Sto. Niño town past 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Initial investigations by the Sto. Niño police reveal that the bus came from Isulan town in Sultan Kudarat.

Upon arriving in its terminal in Sto. Niño market, some passengers boarded the bus, including the suspects.

Minutes after departing from the terminal, one suspect told the driver to stop. He got off the bus ordered the driver to take it to the public cemetery.

The suspect then ordered all passengers to get off the bus before setting it on fire. They immediately fled the area after the incident.

Members of the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection of Sto. Niño quickly responded to the area to put out the fire.

More than half of the bus was reduced to ashes.

Meanwhile, the passengers were brought to the Sto. Niño Police Station.

This has been the fourth bus from the same transport company to be burned by men claiming to be part of the rebel group since November.

Authorities are looking into the extortion angle in these incidents. —Erwin Colcol/NB, GMA News
