‘Ex-boyfriend’ chops up college girl’s body in Cavite

Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly raping and killing a college student, whose chopped up body was found in Trece Martirez, Cavite.

A report by Dano Tingcungco in 24 Oras said the victim was identified as Mitzi Joy Balunsay, an incoming sophomore tourism student at the Cavite State University.

Balunsay's body was placed in a plastic bag and cardboard box. It was discovered along a sidewalk in a subdivision in Barangay De Ocampo on Friday morning.

Autopsy results showed that Mitzy was raped before she was choked to death.

Mitzy's parents said she had texted them the night before using a different mobile number. She had asked permission to sleep over in a friend's house so she can enroll in school early the next day.

"Nung nakita ko yung anak ko, nasa morgue siya," an emotional Jerry Balunsay said.

Police identified the arrested suspect as Alvin delos Angeles.

Angeles was arrested by the police and detained at the Trece Martires Component Police Station on Saturday morning.

Delos Angeles was Mitzy's orgmate in theater and claimed to be the victim's former boyfriend.

According to the police, the suspect had confessed to the killing of Balunsay.

Delos Angeles said that the victim had ended their four-month relationship.

"Dumilim ang paningin ko. Nagtalo po kami, nag-away po kami, nagkasakitan po kami... Makikipagbalikan po sana," said Delos Angeles.

"Humihingi po ako ng dispensa sa magulang ni Mitzy, kamag-anak, sana mapatawad niyo ako. Lalo na sa mga kaibigan ko sa Teatro," he added.

The suspect, meanwhile, denied that he raped the victim.

Despite his denial, the suspect will be charged with rape with homicide.

He will also undergo a drug test, although police said he was not under the influence of drugs based on their initial assessment. —Jessica Bartolome/ALG, GMA News
