About 200 cops patrol Boracay as island expects 50k tourists during Holy Week

With about 50,000 tourists expected to spend the Holy Week break in Boracay, close to 200 cops have already been patroling the island, a report on Unang Balita by Dano Tingcungco on Monday said.

At the Caticlan Airport in Malay, Aklan, tourists have started arriving steadily since Palm Sunday, April 9.

The tourists came from Manila and other parts of the country such as Iloilo and Cebu.

From Malay in the mainland of Aklan, the tourists headed to Caticlan Jetty Port, where they had to take boat rides to Boracay.

Policemen have already been stationed inside and outside the jetty port.

Some of the tourists have said they will spend the Holy Week break with family members doing water sports and exploring the non-traditional Boracay experience.

The Holy Week break is one of the peak seasons for the island.

More than 180 policemen have been assigned to patrol the island by foot, bicycle, and ATV.

Algae could still be seen on the shore, but the Department of Tourism has assured tourists that this is nothing to worry about.

The public was reminded that smoking is not allowed on the beachfront.

Littering and drinking at the beachfront are also not allowed. —KG, GMA News
