Female NPA member wounded, nabbed after clash in Abra

Troops on Saturday arrested a female member of the New People's Army (NPA) after a clash with the rebels in Boliney, Abra.

Lt. Col. Thomas Dominic Baluga, commanding officer of the Army's 24th Infantry Battalion, initially identified the female NPA member as a certain Joana.

She was later identified as Adriel Dawn Aguilar Aquino, a resident of Caloocan City.

Baluga said Aquino was arrested after being wounded in a gunfight between the troops and at least 30 rebels in Sitio Tinalban, Barangay Kilong-olao at around 3:30 p.m.

He said troops encountered the rebels during a combat security operation in the area.

Troops recovered three M16 rifles, two M14 rifles, an M203 grenade launcher, 15 backpacks, two hand-held radios and eight cellular phones.

Pursuit operations have been launched against the rebels.

Clashes between the government and the communist rebels continued despite the ongoing peace talks. —report from Argie Lorenzo/ALG, GMA News
