Priest killer Norberto Manero Jr. arrested in GenSan

Police on Friday arrested Norberto Deduro Manero Jr., one of the killers of Fr. Tullio Favali, in General Santos City for murder and attempted murder charges.

An initial police report said Manero was arrested at around 11:30 a.m. in Barangay Dadiangas West.

Chief Superintendent Cedrick Train, director of the Police Regional Office 12, said Manero is detained at the General Santos City Jail in Barangay Apopong.

He was nabbed by virtue of the warrant of arrest issued by Hon. Andres N. Lorenzo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 23 on June 10, 2010.

Train said he did not know details of the murder and frustrated murder charges against Manero.

The police official added that he did not even know that a warrant for Manero's arrest had been issued.

Manero and his brother Edilberto and Elpidio brutally killed Favali in April 1985. They had conspired with a few others to liquidate a number of suspected communist sympathizers.

Norberto Jr. was released on pardon during President Joseph Estrada's time in December 2000.

His brothers were later released in 2003. —Anna Felicia Bajo/ALG, GMA News
