Police, Coast Guard, Marines, and divers become ‘scubasurero’ for the environment

Members of the Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine Marines joined professional divers to dig up trash from the depths of the ocean in Zamboanga City and help the local marine ecosystem recover.

In a report on Unang Balita on Monday, 50 divers were seen bringing up sacks of plastic, food packages and rubber for the "scubasurero" project of the Inshore Boat Battalion of the Philippine Marines.

Other than cleaning up parts of the ocean, the project aims to make the public—especially the youth—aware of the need to care for the environment on land and in the ocean. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
