2 arrested in alleged bomb try in Shariff Aguak

Two people were arrested Friday night after they allegedly tried to bomb a barangay outpost in Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao province.

A military spot report identified the two as Esmael Abdulkarem, 44, a resident of Shariff Aguak, and Boy Kamid, 52, a resident of Datu Hoffer, also in Maguindanao.

Two other suspects were able to flee the scene onboard a motorcycle.

According to the report, members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) spotted four men planting an improvised explosive device (IED) at a ticket booth beside the BPAT outpost.

The IED, which was later defused by the Army’s Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD), was placed inside a small box.

After witnessing the four suspects, the BPAT members reported the incident to Shariff Aguak Vice Mayor Akmhad Ampatuan who, together with other BPAT members, responded immediately to the scene and arrested the two suspects.

Seized from the two was a caliber .45mm pistol. They are now in the custody of Municipal Police Station of Shariff Aguak. —KBK, GMA News
